Step 01

Open and prepare your broker account.

Choose an MT4-compatible forex broker.

JoinMyFX strategies are designed to run on MetaTrader 4. Your broker must support MT4, allow Expert Advisors, and provide stable execution. Once your account is open, fund it according to your personal risk tolerance.

  • Create a live or demo MT4 trading account with your chosen broker.
  • Complete KYC/identity verification if required by the broker.
  • Deposit only capital you can afford to risk.
  • Confirm your account credentials: login number, password, and server name.
  • Make sure your broker supports automated trading and Expert Advisors.

Step 02

Install MetaTrader 4 and log in.

Download MT4 from your broker.

Your broker will typically provide a branded MT4 installer inside the client portal. Install MetaTrader 4 on the computer or VPS where you plan to run the strategy, then sign in using the broker credentials from Step 01.

  • Download the official MT4 installer from your broker's website or dashboard.
  • Install MT4 and launch the platform.
  • Go to File → Login to Trade Account.
  • Enter your account number, password, and broker server exactly as provided.
  • Confirm quotes are updating and your account balance/equity are visible.

Step 03

Install your JoinMyFX Expert Advisor.

Place the EA file in the correct MT4 folder.

After subscribing, you'll receive access to your JoinMyFX EA file and any strategy-specific configuration notes. Move the EA into MT4's Experts folder, restart the platform, and attach it to the appropriate chart.

  • In MT4, click File → Open Data Folder.
  • Open MQL4 → Experts.
  • Copy your JoinMyFX EA file into the Experts folder.
  • Restart MT4, or right-click the Navigator panel and click Refresh.
  • Open the required chart and timeframe for your selected strategy.
  • Drag the EA onto the chart and enable the strategy settings provided with your subscription.
Important Make sure the global AutoTrading button in MT4 is enabled. If AutoTrading is off, the EA will load but will not execute trades.

Step 04

Verify permissions and go live.

Confirm the EA is active and ready to trade.

Once attached to the chart, your final step is making sure the strategy has the permissions it needs and that MT4 remains online continuously. A VPS is strongly recommended for uninterrupted operation.

  • In the EA settings window, allow live trading.
  • Allow DLL imports only if your setup instructions require them.
  • Check the top-right corner of the chart for a smiling face icon.
  • Keep MT4 open and connected to the internet at all times.
  • Monitor your account periodically, especially during the first week.

Do I need a VPS?

Not strictly, but it's strongly recommended. MT4 must remain online for automated trading to function consistently. A VPS provides 24/7 uptime and reduces the risk of missed trades due to power or internet interruptions.

Can I use a demo account first?

Yes. Many traders test on demo before deploying on live capital. Just remember demo execution is often cleaner than live execution, so results may differ.

Will my results match Myfxbook exactly?

Not necessarily. Results can vary based on broker, spread, slippage, VPS latency, leverage, and account settings. Myfxbook data shows verified live reference performance, not a guarantee of identical returns.

What if the EA is not trading?

Check AutoTrading, chart smiley icon, broker login status, market hours, symbol/timeframe requirements, and EA settings. Most issues come from one of those five items.
